GCSE Computing (OCR) 100% Exam (two exams)

GCSE Computing focuses on programming and controlling computers rather than the traditional ICT approach of using a range of applications to complete tasks in real-life business scenarios. GCSE Computing helps students to better understand the ways computers work, the way we structure code that solve problems and help us complete complex tasks. This course provides an excellent starting point for further study in the area of computing and programming, whether in traditional ‘Computer Science’ courses, more practical technical support roles or new industries such as mobile apps, web and gaming.

Pearson Edexcel Level 2 Certificate in Digital Applications (CiDA)

The Pearson Edexcel Level 2 Certificate in Digital Applications has been designed to engage and enthuse young people with an interest in creative computing, for example digital graphics and animations, interactive multimedia products and computer games. Our aim is to encourage learners to consider pursuing education, training and career paths which will contribute to the nation’s economic well being, while achieving job satisfaction and reward. The UK has a well-deserved reputation for producing innovation and design. In an era in which creativity is intertwining with technology like never before, there is a danger that the UK will fail to nurture the next generation of world class designers. The Pearson Edexcel Level 2 Certificate in Digital Applications has been designed to teach digital design skills and enable young people to use digital tools to express their creativity in an informed and responsible way.

The course is focused around the design, creation and evaluation of digital products. Students will learn how to design and produce products which satisfy specific requirements, lending a vocational element to their learning. The assets students will be required to produce include web sites, digital animations, video and sound recordings, and multi media presentations.

The course is assessed across two units, which are as follows:

Unit 1 - Developing web products (30 guided learning hours) – A compulsory unit focused on web site development which is assessed via a practical external exam. The exam is worth 25% of the overall grade

Unit 2 (90 guided learning hours) –  Creative Multimedia unit which is a based upon a Summative project which is internally assessed, and is worth 75% of the overall grade.

We believe that digital thinking is a core skill for all students that will enable us to thrive in the 21st century world. Through high-quality teaching and learning we will develop problem solving and creative skills that will be useful in the future job marketplace. We will be stretched to experience new technologies and techniques and to apply them in realistic situations. We want all students to leave Dame Elizabeth with a good qualification in Computing or ICT and to have had the opportunity to explore a wide range of technologies to give them the confidence to keep exploring and learning.
