  • Faculty Leader: Mr. J Smith

The Physical Education team encourage pupils to become more confident in different roles within sport including as a performer, leader or as an official.

The Physical Education Faculty inspire pupils to be active learners and provide opportunities for students to explore participation in physical activity and performing arts through an innovative curriculum. Within lessons, extra-curricular clubs and school fixtures, pupils are given the platform to succeed and perform at the highest level. We provide the knowledge and understanding of the importance of a healthy active lifestyle and show pupils many pathways into a healthy active future.

  • Curriculum and Assessment

Core PE (2 per hours week in Years 7-9, 1 hour in Years 10/11)

Our curriculum aims to develop the individual student to enable them to be successful & confident learners equipped with the essential skills needed for further study in PE or Performing Arts.

At Key Stage 3 and 4 core Physical Education pupils build the relevant skills, techniques and tactics in a range of sporting and dance contexts and develop their knowledge and understanding of rules regulations and scoring systems to allow students to become more confident as a performer, leader and as an official.

Students are encouraged to develop their vocabulary linking to GCSE and BTEC Sport learning to best support their development into examination course if they so wish to opt for. GCSE and BTEC courses offered in the faculty then build on the subject content already learned and challenge pupils to a higher level.

Pupils are assessed in three key areas in range of sports and activities:

Evaluating and Improving: This is the ability to review sporting performance of themselves and others, and then to highlight strengths and areas for improvement.

Performance: This focuses on pupils ability to perform in a variety of activities throughout the academic year including team and individual sports.

Theoretical Knowledge: This allows pupils to develop their knowledge the PE theory that underpins sporting performance, including anatomy, physiology and nutrition.

Students can select a pathway gives them a greater understanding of how to lead a healthy lifestyle. These pathways begin to explore the theoretical concepts of PE in more depth providing a foundation for further study at post-16.
