We at Dame Elizabeth are increasing the opportunities for our students to develop themselves academically and personally. The school will now be embarking on its third year of running the Duke of Edinburgh award.
The scheme provides students the opportunity to achieve a prestigious certificate, highly recognised in employment and university. The scheme allows students to challenge and develop themselves across a variety of requirements. Students will be required to create an individual learning programme and chance to explore new unfamiliar environments. Students will develop time management, leadership, initiative and problem solving skills as well as developing their confidence and creating new friendships for life.
The award has successfully run for a year now and seen numbers grow throughout the year. The award is open to students in Year 9 through to Sixth form, with students needing to be 14 upon enrolment.
The fee for the award is £50, which covers all admin, introduction pack, registration fee (£21 for the Bronze Award, £21 for Silver) and certification costs as well as Expedition support from school staff and Wayahead training Ltd. Additional costs may be needed for participants to acquire equipment such as walking boots, waterproofs, food etc. Depending on activities chosen for their skill development, there may also be costs involved. Pupil premium students can use their allocated school PP fees to pay the enrolment fees.
We will also provide an information evening to parents and students about the AWARD, expectations and progression to Silver and Gold in September, once all numbers have been confirmed.
If your child is interested in completing the Duke of Edinburgh Award please return the slip below and attached enrolment form to Mr James, PE Department. Please ensure payment for the award is sent through wisepay with reference to DEC DofE.
